In April, mao bamboo and Chinese medicinal herbs such as mangnolia officinalis and holly root are growing well in Guidong County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province.
Guidong County has won honorable titles like “the county with the highest negative oxygen ion content in the world”, “the national ecological demonstration zone”, “a famous county for health tourism in China” and “a demonstration county for Chinese medicinal herb planting bases in Hunan Province”.
It has continued efforts to improve the ecological environment, strengthen ecological industries such as agricultural and forestry product processing, traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, food and medicine, and strive to build a “Five Good” park.
The party and the masses work together for a better tomorrow.
In recent years, Guidong has carried out a series of activities to promote the deep integration of Party building and economic construction.
In April, the construction of Hunan Guangyu Agriculture and Zhonghe Forest and wood projects is in full swing. The standard factory of 120,000 square meters, scientific research building and comprehensive building of the phase I project have been basically completed, with the interior decoration in progress.
In 2021, the Party branch of Guidong Guangyu Agricultural Co., Ltd. was established to lead workers to work hard for herb production.
“Nearly 20,000 cubic meters of soil was transported away in 5 days, and all water and electricity pipelines were laid in 1 day. The Party branch actively coordinated efforts to ensure the smooth progress of the project from land acquisition and demolition to the erection of the factory building,” said Liu Gongquan, head of Hunan Zhonghe Forest and Wood Co., Ltd.
The Party branch of Zhongyi Zhumu Development Co., Ltd. in Guidong County also took the lead in building 5 bamboo and wood processing points throughout the county, with annual sales exceeding 60 million yuan. The company paid more than 40 million yuan to farmers for mao bamboo and provide jobs for 1,000 people.
Park and enterprises make concerted efforts to develop ecological industries.
“After conducting a field investigation in many places, we decided to locate our project in Guidong where the climate is the most suitable for growing high-quality Chinese medicinal herbs. At present, we have transferred 18,000 mu (1,200 hectares) of forest land to interplant precious medicinal herbs. Over 100,000 mu (about 6,666.67 hectares) of modern forestry planting bases and over 50,000 mu (about 3,333.33 hectares) of wild improved precious medicinal herb bases are expected to be built within 5 years,” said Xu Jia, head of Hunan Guangyu Agricultural Comprehensive Development Co., Ltd.
Guidong has focused on characteristic industries and facilitated the development of the Chinese medicinal herb industry. With pharmaceutical enterprises integrating a full industry chain of production, processing and sales leading the way, efforts have been made to promote the production mode of “company plus base plus cooperative plus farmer”.
As of now, the county has planted an area of 260,000 mu (about 17,333.33 hectares) of Chinese medicinal herbs, with an annual output value of 1.5 billion yuan, providing jobs for over 60,000 people each year. The Chinese medicinal herb industry has registered a good momentum of development.
“In 2021, I returned to my hometown to work in a local enterprise. Not only did I enjoy stable employment subsidies, but also I can take care of my elderly mother,” said Aunt Yang, a worker of Hunan Zhongkang Food Technology Co., Ltd.
Guidong County has introduced multiple policies that benefit enterprises, signed agreements with enterprises to promote investment through rewards, optimized business environment, and helped enterprises tackle difficulties, enabling enterprises to serve the local economy better.
In 2022, nearly 70 enterprises settled in Guidong Industrial Development Zone with 1,312 employees. 1,180,000 yuan of stable employment subsidies and 33,695,800 yuan of rewards have been paid.
A “Five Good” park is to be built.
“We started construction as soon as we got the land,” said Zhang Wang, head of Guidong Guineng New Energy Co., Ltd., adding that the local government appointed service specialists to assist them in handling relevant procedures to ensure the timely construction of the project which is expected to be put into production by the end of June.
Guidong County has always given priority to economic growth, technological innovation, optimization of the development environment and safety production, striving to build a “Five Good” park with development potential, thriving industries, competitiveness and innovation spirit.
In 2023, Guidong Industrial Development Zone added 5 new projects, with a contract value of 10 billion yuan. The total revenue of technology, industry and trade reached 1.85 billion yuan, up 13.65% year on year. The tax income hit 205.721 million yuan, with a growth rate of 9.14%. The tax revenue per mu (about 0.067 hectares) was 94,600 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 35.5%. 4,027 job opportunities were created, a year-on-year growth of 17.9%.
